Anthony Jordan Merriweather (1996) is a researcher and photojournalist. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee where he minored in Photography and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He earned his Associate’s degree in Mass Communication from Jackson State Community College in Jackson, Tennessee. Additionally, he holds cybersecurity certifications from CompTIA (Security+) and ISC2 (CC).

As a college student, he was awarded Best Multimedia Journalist in the Best of the South competition by the Southeastern Journalism Conference. During this time, he worked for MTSU and the John Seigenthaler Chair of Excellence in First Amendment Studies helping to digitize the First Amendment Encyclopedia. Upon graduation, he was selected into the Freedom Forum Institute’s Chips Quinn Scholars Program and subsequently worked as a photojournalist for The Tennessean in Nashville, Tennessee.

Since, AJ has worked as a contributor for publications such as The New York Times, The USA TODAY Network and music publications throughout the United States.

His work currently focuses on human consumption and interaction with water, food, media, technology and social systems. His interest in this work stems from personal complications managing a lifelong gastrointestinal condition that he carefully manages. His goal is to develop multimedia content that combines scientific research and storytelling to provide relief to others like him who struggle to maintain their health in a world that has not found its way.

I will be backpacking through Spain, France, the Netherlands and Germany. These countries hold significance in my pilgrimage because of their agricultural exports. 

I'll be observing money motivations and lost causes.

Once in Germany, I plan to further my research and take the necessary legal steps to earn citizenship in Deutschland. Before earning citizenship, I plan to submit my research plans to the Max Planck Society and officially begin my career as a researcher.

I hope I can serve as a guiding light for established researchers in Germany who devote their lives to understanding the gut-brain axis. I hope to use my own gastrointestinal condition to collaborate with researchers, scientists and medical professionals to create multimedia content. 

Additionally, I plan to secure a lawyer to sue the American healthcare systems that misdiagnosed me.
